We’re bringing
the Lion back.

The Project

A historic place with
a new purpose

The Lion Brewery has been part of Rochester’s story for generations. We are working to bring part of it back into active use as The Craft Hub: a welcoming space built around local drinks, creativity, practical skills and community connection.

"It will be a place where people can share what they know, discover something new and help shape the next chapter of this historic site."

Exploring Sustainable Brewing & Distilling Practices

What is coming to the Lion

Shaping our future together through five clear principles

Meet

A welcoming place for local people, visitors, makers and independent businesses to connect.

Community First

Make

Brewing, distilling, product development and hands-on creative activity rooted in craft and experimentation.

Local production

Learn

Workshops, demonstrations, talks and opportunities for people to share practical knowledge and experience.

Skills exchange

Share

Community events, tastings, collaborations and physical space for ideas to gather and organically grow.

Shared spaces

Return

A commitment to responsible production, reuse, local partnerships and creating lasting value for Medway.

Regenerative
Skill-Sharing Initiative

A space shaped by
shared skills

The Craft Hub will create opportunities for people to teach, demonstrate and exchange skills — from brewing, fermentation and food to art, heritage, gardening, repair, making and other practical crafts.

You will not need to be an expert to take part. The aim is to create an open and welcoming environment where experience can be shared across generations and communities.

The Lion is
already stirring

Before the permanent space opens, we are bringing the Craft Hub idea to life through pop-ups, local events, collaborations and products such as Lion’s Lager (4.4% vol).

These early activities allow people to meet us, experience the idea first-hand, and help influence what comes next. The project is alive and growing, not just a plan on paper!
